The German Internet Exchange (DE-CIX) is a historic and a contemporary place for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to interconnect and exchange traffic with each other at a national or international level.
The DE-CIX connects all major German ISPs, many international ISPs and organisations like the National Research Network, DFN, and is operated by a neutral operator. As a result the DE-CIX has become one of the larger European Internet Exchanges, thus keeping the German Internet traffic within Germany.
The DE-CIX provides the shared LAN infrastructure which facilitates ISPs to inter-connect their backbone networks by means of a connection to the shared infrastructure. Once a network is connected, Internet traffic can be exchanged with all other connected ISPs provided a peering arrangement has been established between the respective ISPs.
Any ISP with an arrangement for traffic exchange with any of the ISPs already connected to the DE-CIX can connect to the DE-CIX. Please read the Newcomer Information in case you are interested in a connection.
DE-CIX offers Internet exchange, interconnect and colocation solutions to the largest aggregation of networks in the industry. Leverage the benefits of the critical mass of networks that DE-CIX has assembled with more than 200 wholesale, broadband and content providers, including all the top global Tier 1 networks. Customers can directly setup IP-peering or transit connections with the providers that serve over 80% of the world‘s Internet networks and users.
DE-CIX is the leading Internet exchange in the heart of Europe and is the gateway that connects networks from Central and Eastern Europe with global networks from all over the world. This includes the world leading providers such as Google, Yahoo, Level3, Sprint and many others.
