Am 17. Mai 2018 verabschiedete der Vorstand der Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) die vorgeschlagene "Temporary Specification for Registration Data" für generische Top-Level-Domains (gTLDs).

Wichtige Entscheidungen zu Kernfunktionen des Internet könnten 2020 in Deutschland fallen: eco – Verband der Internetwirtschaft e. V. und DENIC eG werden dann vom 17. bis 23. Oktober 2020 gemeinsam mit der Stadt Hamburg als Gastgeber das 69. Meeting der ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) ausrichten.
